Russian Orthodox Church Delegation Visited CDCC Print E-mail

The chairman of CDCC, Mr. M. Din Syamsuddin received a delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church (Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russian and the Moscow Patriarchate) at CDCC Office on December 8, 2007, just after giving his closing remarks at the International Seminar on “Humanity in Context: Christian-Muslim Perspectives on Religious Freedom” .

The members of the delegation included: His Grace Archbishop Hilarion (ruling bishop of Sydney, Australia and New Zealand, Deputy President of the Synod of Bishops); Reader, Alexander Paramonov (member of the Diocesan Youth Committee and Geelong Parish Secretary); His Grace Bishop Mark of Egoriev (vicar of the Moscow Diocese, Deputy Chairman of the the Department of External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate); Hieromonk Sofrony (Kitaev, Economos of the Belgorod Theological Seminary); and Dmitry Ivanovich Petrovsky (Secretary for Inter-Orthodox relations of the Belgorod and Starooskol’skaya diocese).

The delegation was joined by Archimandrite Daniel (Byantoro Bambang), the head of the Indonesian Orthodox Mission. This delegation visited Indonesia from the 6th to 11th December 2007. This was also the first time that the two parts of the Russian Orthodox Church served together in Asia.

In the midst of their conversation, Mr. Syamsuddin said that this visit could encourage future cooperation among religions which will be significant for strengthening our struggle for world peace. Cooperation between Islam and Russian Orthodox Church can lend this struggle great vigor.[]
