(Sapporo, MADINA): Kerusakan yang melanda dunia dewasa ini ditandai oleh kemiskinan, kebodohan, keterbelakangan, kerusakan lingkungan, pemanasan global, perubahan iklim, perang, dan lain-lain. Ini tidak terlepas dari ulah negara-negara maju, termasuk yang tergabung dalam G-6. Oleh karena itu negar-negara maju, khusunya G-8, harus menunjukkan tanggungjawab dalam mengatasi kerusakan dunia tersebut. |

The Second World Peace Forum yang diadakan oleh Muhammadiyah, Cheng Ho Foundation, dan Center for Dialogue and Cooperation among Civilizations (CDCC) (24-26 Juni 2008) merupakan pertemuan tokoh-tokoh agama dan politik dari berbagai negara. Salah satu tujuannya adalah berupaya menyuarakan agama untuk membangun perdamaian. Forum semacam ini menarik untuk dikaji dalam kaitannya dengan sejauh mana efektivitas seruan agama dalam meredam kekerasan. |

Can faith and religion combat violence in a world where religion has been ill-used as the banner for armed conflict? If yes, how? When governments are embroiled in war, what can civil society and faith based organizations do for peace? When media have been criticized for their role in inflaming conflicts, as they defend their right to freedom of expression, do they have responsibility for minimizing or containing violence? Or is the media’s responsibility only to report the news, regardless of the negative consequences? |

Aimed to address global violence, the Second World Peace Forum, sponsored by Muhammadiyah, the Cheng Ho Foundation and the Center for Dialogue and Cooperation among Civilizations (CDCC) and held in Jakarta on June 24-26, concluded with a number of calls and appeals. |
